Daniel Rea has been Professor of Medical Oncology since 2017. He has worked in Birmingham since 1996 and is the Deputy Director of the Cancer Research UK Clinical trials unit at the University of Birmingham with the responsibility of the Adult cancer trials Portfolio.
His clinical work is based at University Hospital Birmingham where he leads the Medical Oncology breast service for the largest cancer centre in the West Midlands.
His own research interests are in the treatment of early breast cancer and is the Chief Investigator for a number of large phase 3 studies which all include strong translational components. He also has a specialist interest in Inflammatory breast cancer.
Professor Rea is a past Chair of the National Cancer Research Institute Breast Group and sits on the executive steering committee of the UK Breast Group. He has supported the growth in surgical research in breast cancer and the inclusion of junior doctors and other health care professionals in breast cancer research.
