Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The safety of our patients and staff is our number one priority. Your healthcare is essential, and we are actively following guidance from the Department of Health, Public Health England, Health Protection Scotland and Public Health Wales to ensure you are kept safe. For more information on guidelines related to COVID-19 please visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/.

Consultants at Midlands Breast Clinic remain committed to provide advice and guidance to patients with suspected or confirmed Breast Cancer. In order to reduce risk to our patients and teams, and to reduce footfall into hospitals, or clinical settings, we have implemented a new Telehealth system that will enable all patient consultations to be conducted by video conferencing or telephone. Onsite clinics will only be provided where a physical examination is required.

Telehealth:

Midlands Breast Clinic uses the ZOOM Cloud Meetings application to allow you to securely connect with your doctor. You will need to install this prior to your consultation appointment.

What will happen and how private will it be?

You and your doctor will be at each end of the screen during the Telehealth consultation. Before the consultation begins, the doctor will ask you identification questions such as your name, address and date of birth to make sure the right patient, right doctor, and health records are present. The doctor will speak with you and ask you questions the same way as they would at a face-to-face consultation. As with a face-to-face appointment, your spouse, partner, family or friend may accompany you if you wish.

Your Telehealth appointment will be private and confidential. The image and sound are transferred in an encrypted form so that your appointment is completely confidential.

What equipment do I need to use Telehealth?

You can connect on a laptop or computer, with audio and video-enabled. A tablet device is recommended.

The mobile devices below can easily be used:

  • An Apple mobile device (iPhone, or iPad); or
  • An Android device (e.g. Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet, Google Pixel phone, etc)

Internet connection requirements:

  • Wifi connected to an NBN, ADSL, or Cable service; or
