Mr Naren Basu leads one of the largest breast services in the UK, treating approximately 1000 breast cancers each year. He oversees breast activity at the QE Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Good Hope Hospital. He is a fully trained and accredited Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon, holds 4 university degrees, numerous professional memberships and travelling fellowships from Harvard and L’Institut Curie in Paris, France.
Naren is involved in training plastic and breast surgeons of the future and is currently the lead trainer for the Oncoplastic (National and Regional) Fellowships in Birmingham. He is an enthusiastic teacher of medical students and currently holds to the position of Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He is actively involved in research and is the principal investigator on a number of national clinical trials. His doctoral thesis assessed risk factors on breast cancer amongst BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers. He has published widely and authored several chapters on BRCA mutations and familial breast cancer.
