Family history and genetics of breast cancer

Some people may have an increased risk of developing breast cancer due to changes in their genetic makeup (DNA), or previous history.

These include a change in genes called BRCA1, BRCA2, and PALB2.

Factors which can predispose people to develop breast cancer include:

  • Other blood relatives being diagnosed with breast cancer
  • Certain non-cancer breast conditions
